"The
painter thinks in forms and colours. The aim is
not to reconstitute an anecdotal fact but to constitute
a pictoral fact. Through art, we express our conception
of what nature is not".
"I
enjoy painting water because it is always changing,
in both colour and shape. Often I will be satisfied
with the way I've pictured the water. It is my most
difficult and most rewarding subject".

"In
years to come, the waterfront stilt houses will
all be demolished in the name of development...so
will the craft now being used by the fishermen
and paddy planters. They will all be fully mechanised...in
the place of the stilt houses will rise monstrous
concrete colossus."
"Paddy
planting and harvesting too will not be the
same and
fishermen will be using highly mechanised trawler
fishing boats
...and the present will be completely buried
in the past.
I really
want to leave behind something for posterity
so that the future generation can learn about
the lives and methods used by their ancestors
to eke out a living."
