Biography

Ong Kim Seng was born in Singapore. A self-taught artist, he has, for the past fifteen years, dedicated himself exclusively to water colour painting. His works have been exhibited both in Singapore and abroad, and can be seen on display in Art galleries, amongst private collections and at the Maritime Museum on Sentosa Island.

He is a member of the Singapore Watercolour Society and the Old Watercolour Society's Club (UK); an associate of the American Watercolour Society and an exhibiting member of the Royal Art Society (N.S.W.) Australia.

His major break came in 1974 when he won first prize in the Port of Singapore Authority Artists' Encouragement Scheme Art Competition. As a result of the above, he was commissioned by the Maritime Museum to paint 'Historical Vessel' (Vessels owned by the East India Company voyaging to Singapore). This was the beginning of a recognition that would ensure his reputation as an artist of certain standing.

Ong Kim Seng is the first Singaporean to have won five awards and the Dolphin Fellowship from the American Watercolour Society. Not only so, Ong Kim Seng is also among Singapore's highest-priced living artists.
