Biography

Wee Beng Chong was born in Singapore in 1938. He graduated from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (Fine Art Department) in 1958. Between 1964 and 1969, he studied at the L'Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux Arts in Paris.

Beng Chong is a painter, sculptor, calligrapher and seal-carving expert with numerous awards, which include the "International Prize" at the 17th International Art Exhibition in France, PINGAT APAD, Modern Creative Art Award, and Cultural Medallion for achievement and contribution. He is one of the founding members of the Modern Art Society and the Alumni Association of NAFA. He had represented Singapore at the 3rd ASEAN Sculptors Symposium in 1984.

He had held 8 solo exhibitions in Singapore, Malaysia, Switzerland, France and Germany, and participated in numerous group exhibitions both locally and abroad. His style is appreciated by many Singapore and overseas corporate and individual collectors who kept his works. He had also published two books on seal-carvings.

Currently, Beng Chong is a Senior Lecturer with the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts. In 1993, he was awarded the NAFA long service award.
