Tan Kee Sek was born in Singapore in 1951. He graduated from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in 1970. He was a part-time lecturer in Chinese paintings with NAFA between 1982 and 1990. He became a full-time Senior Lecturer with the institution from 1994 to 1997.

Kee Sek held his first solo exhibition in 1994. For more than 30 years, he was researching on paintings, calligraphy and seal-carvings. Over the years, he had maintained his style of works - which is focused traditional techniques and rules, yet modern with his own characteristic.
