Biography

Nai Swee Leng was born in 1946. He loves painting since his childhood. He was inspired by his art teacher, the late Mr Fan Chang Tien, a renowned Wu's Artist who was famous for drawing orchids and bamboo. After Swee Leng graduated from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, he also had Chao Shao-An, the Lingnan master as his mentor. To strive for excellence and to develop his personal style in his painting, he studied under many artists and practised many different kinds of skills and techniques of both eastern and western artists. He prefers working with Chinese ink, and this is reflected especially in his recent creative works. He tries to develop and simplify the form and the composition of his works. At the same time, he tries to embody the originality of the objects in his painting. He had held many exhibitions both in Singapore and overseas. He was highly commended by the art world.
