Lim Yew
Kuan was born in 1929 in Xiamen, China. He migrated to Singapore
during the Second World War. After graduating from the Nanyang
Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA), majoring in Western Arts, in
1950, he taught in the institution for seven years. He furthered
his Western Arts studies in the Chelsea School of Art (London)
between 1958 to 1962. In 1963, he returned to Singapore and
became the Deputy Principal of NAFA the following year (1964).
He held the role of NAFA's Vice Principal in 1980. Currently,
he is a professional artist.
In 1980,
Lim Yew Kuan was awarded the Public Service Medal, Singapore.
He was also awarded the Long Service Award by NAFA in 1985.
He was active in the Singapore arts scene. In 1992, his works
participated in the Hwa Chong Alumni Association art exhibition.
He was the committee member of Singapore Art Society for many
years, and was invited to be among the panel of judges for
several art competitions.
Lim Yew
Kuan's works display high profile, matured style and creativity
in traditional medium. His works are also collected by the
National Museum Art Gallery (Singapore), National Museum of
Art (Malaysia), and many Singapore and overseas collectors.
