Lee Hock
Moh is well known for the orchids that he depicts in his paintings
in the traditional Chinese Gongbi style. A style characterized
by fine brushwork and close attention to detail. Hock Moh,
53 years old, is said to be the first Singapore artist to
specialize in painting orchids with the Chinese brush medium.
And he is also reputed to be one of the finest orchid painters
in Asia.
Born in
Singapore in 1947. Hock Moh graduated from the Nanyang Academy
of Fine Arts in 1970. Since then, he has been working hard
on art, especially in painting orchids. Recently, he started
painting landscapes. However, his love for orchids remains
unchanged.
Hock Moh
has been preparing for his very first solo exhibition since
1998. Prior to this, he has participated in several exhibitions
in Singapore and overseas including Hong Kong, China, Moscow
and the United States. This solo exhibition will showcase
his works on orchids and landscapes.
Hock Moh
has been recognised and rewarded with numerous awards. The
awards include: The Cultural Medallion (1981), the highest
award given in the field of the arts in Singapore, by the
Singapore Government, and a Special Award at the National
Day Art Exhibition (1975, 1976 & 1983), a Special award by
the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts Alumni Association (1980)
and many others.
Besides,
his works were also widely collected by many political figures
as well as by the National Museum of Singapore and the National
University of Singapore.
