Born
in Singapore in 1962, Goh Ee Choo graduated from the Nanyang
Academy of Fine Arts in 1985. In 1988, together with two contemporary
artists, he exhibited his creations at "Trimurti",
the multi-media arts exhibition. He was awarded a British
Council Scholarship in the same year to study at the Slade
School of Fine Arts, University College, London, which he
later obtained his Master Degree in Fine Arts in 1990.
Goh
has participated in several open and group exhibitions in
Singapore, Australia and France (Paris). He was also a delegate
at the First Asean Youth Painting Workshop held in Bangkok
in 1983.
He
has won a number of awards, including the Tan Tsze Chor Art
Award for Young Artists in 1984, the Commendation Awards at
the Painting of the Year Competition in 1982 and 1985, and
a Consolation Prize in the PSA Artist Encouragement Scheme.
As
he studied Chinese painting (resonance or energy) and western
arts while he was in France and England, his earlier works
were deeply influenced by Taoism and western philosophical
ideas. He was later deeply involved in Buddhism (Kalachakra
Mandala), which has become the root of creation for his art
works.
