Born in
1950, Lim Chiok Ping was first introduced to art in the late-1960s.
In 1968, to acquire a qualification in art, CP Lim decided
to enroll into Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts and in 1971, he
graduated with a Diploma in Fine Art. The following year,
he went to England to pursue his dream of further education
in art and design.
In 1975,
Lim Chiok Ping obtained his BA Degree (Hons) in Graphic Design
from the Middlesex Polytechnic, which is the present Middlesex
University. Graduating with outstanding academic results,
he was offered a scholarship to do an Art Teacher Training
Diploma course with the London University in 1976 which he
accepted. After graduation, Lim Chiok Ping worked as a Graphic
Designer and as an Art Director with a few advertising agencies
in England.
After
spending more than ten years in England, Lim Chiok Ping decided
to return home for good. In 1983, he was engaged as a Curriculum
Director with an advertising agency in Malaysia. Concurrently,
he was also being appointed as a Lecturer at the Nanyang Academy
of Fine Arts. This provided him with an avenue to share his
knowledge in art accumulated from his years of training and
experience with many arts enthusiasts.
With a
view to upgrade himself in terms of knowledge, skills and
wider exposure in the realm of design, he decided to further
his study. In 1985, with a grant from the Nanyang Academy
of Fine Arts and a scholarship from a Foundation, Lim Chiok
Ping went to England again to do his Master Degree (Hons)
in Visual Communication with the Birmingham Polytechnic, which
is now the Birmingham University.
Between
1997-2000, Lim Chiok Ping served as the Director of the School
of Visual Arts under the organisation of the Nanyang Academy
of Fine Arts. Lim Chiok Ping has also been invited to be the
Advisor, Judge and panel member of many art & design competitions.
Equipped with rich knowledge in art and design, he has also
indulged himself in the world of I-Ching and Geomancy. His
training in design and interest in Geomancy have intrigued
and inspired him to combine the two different worlds into
one entity. In recent years, due to the wide range of his
studies and research, Lim Chiok Ping has been invited to conduct
lectures on Feng Shui. The topics include "Eastern & Western
Design", "Asian Designers", "Choosing a Suitable Home", "Geomancy
for Beginners", "Interior Design and the Living Environment",
"The Internal & External Space", etc. in Singapore, Malaysia
and China.
Lim Chiok
Ping has written a number of conference papers and published
a few books. His publications include "Reading The Human Face",
"Auspicious Dates and Geomancy", "I-Ching, Fate & Feng Shui"
and "Modern Home Feng Shui".
